Cross crucifix
 CXLVII. He beareth in this quarter the Instruments of Torture, Cruelty and Death. The first is on an Hill, a Cross Crucifix, of some termed a Cross to Crucify upon, or a Tormenting Cross.


Hot fiery furnace
 The second on an Hill a Hot Fiery Furnace or a Furnace with the Fire and Smoak Ascendent ... See numb. 57 one of another fashion.


St James his club
 CXLVIII. He beareth in a field of Blood, St James his Club. This is set forth to be the form of that Club or Bat, by which it is said St James the Lesser, one of the Apostles of our Lord, was Beaten to Death withal... A club or Kible it is termed in Chap 17. numb 82.


Whip

In the sinister base is a whip or Lash, it is made of a Fox Tail: a thing to punish Offenders whose purses do Penance for their persons; they having only a slap with the tail, when they deserve to lose their heads. The Romans term this an Aspergillum, a thing to sprinkle water with; an Holy Water Stick...


Cauldron on a fire
 CXLIX. He beareth a Cauldron set on a Flaming Fire, the smoak ascendant, with St John Boyling therein...
