Lanthorn Makers Tooles.
I haue in chap 9. numb. 132.133.134. sett down some of the said working Instruments but being then not instructed in the whole which since I haue procured, you shall therefore in this receiue the rest.


Roasting tongs
 79. He beareth a Lanthorn Makers Rosting stick, [with] handle. It is of some named the Roasting tonges. I haue spoken of this elsewhere, but this is the truer shape of the toole.


Horn makers tongs
 80. He beareth the Horn Makers small tonges. These are also called the smaller streightning tonges. The Tangs or Holders are one much longer then the other and Broad Mouthed and round at the ends like a Goose Beake.


Setting chisel
 81. He beareth a setting chysill.


Lanthorn makers tongs
 82. He beareth a Large paire of Tongs, with an Horn between the Tongs, and held togather by a crampe or peece of Iron made fast to the ends of the shank, by two loops one in the other: In which Iron is diuerse holes, for the other end or shank of the tonges to be put into, by which meanes the mouth of the tonges are squeesed hard together, and so holds Horn between them to make the same ly flat and open.


Smooth shave
 83. He beareth a Smooth Shave [with] handle. I haue spoke to this else where and giuen its description and use, onely this is the truer shape of the Toole, which some call a smooth shaveing Knife.


Horn saw
 84. In this square are three Instruments belonging to the Lanthorn or sconce-Makers Trade: the first is an Horn saw, sans handle, by this hornes are cut to what length and breadth the workman pleaseth, it usually hath a wooden handle fixed on the sharp point of it.


Lifting knife
 The second is termed a Lifting Knife.


Steel
 The Third is called, a steele: It is made a made after the manner of a Knife with a thick back and set in a round handle or haft.


Chopping block
 85. In this square are fixed, three things used by the foresaid Trades men: The first is termed a Choping Block.


Lap
 The second is called a Lap.


Block
 The Third issuing out of the sinister Base hath the name of a Block; it is a peece of wood fixt in the ground, hooped round the top, with an Iron pin round and flat on top, set in the midle of it.


Slitting knife
 86. In the seuerall places of this square, are four Instruments belonging to the Art of a Lanthorn maker: The first is termed a slitting Knife, It is a sharp end of a strong round pointed Knife without a Back, set in a thick wooden shaft, with a strong hoop about it.


Smoothing board
 The second, is that lying in the sinister chief, which is called a Smoothing Board. It is couered in part with an hat brime, nailed to the sides and riseing round.


Clearing stake
 The Third which lyeth in the midle or fesse part is named a clearing stak, being wood made halfe round and Taper towards the ends, and covered in the midle with Leather, nailed to the sides.


Lanthorn makers knife
 The fourth lying in the sinister Base, is the forme of an Instrument that hath it name from its Magnitude, or Parvity of it; if larg, it is termed a chopping Knife: If it be the lesser then called a Shave, or an Horn shaveing Knife.


Lanthorn makers fireplace
 87. In this quarter is presented to your view the fire place, where at the workmen use to Heat their hornes, when slitt; and before, to soften them and make them plyable to what fashion or form they please: It is a fire made in a four square Brandrad, haueing Iron plates to be set to the sides to keep the heat in, and that it shall come the more hotter out at the top.


Drawing knife
 88. He beareth a drawing knife.
This is an Instrument by which the standards or side peeces of a wooden Lanthorne frame. [No more text]


Revetting tool
 89. He beareth a Revetting toole. This is a long peece of hard wood rounded off on the Back, and taper to the ends, on the flat side is cut a square Hollow, in which is fixed a sharp steele point, with this is made the rigetts in the sides of the standards, into which the horn is fixed.


Shaving board
 90. In this square is the figure of a Rough shaveing Board, as the same is all closed together, I haue else where spoken to its parts, and used, onely here giue you the true shape of it.
