Pruning Knife
 58. He beareth in this square foure sorts of Instruments belonging to a Gardiner; the first is a pruning Knife, Haueing a bending point, or Hook pointed, whose office it is to cut off superfluous Cyons, and the heads of yong stocks for to graft vpon.


Grafting quill
 The second is a grafting quile, these are cut after the fashion of a Gouge, else some Iron Toole made after the same shape, of which planters haue 3 or 4 sizes some bigger some less, made very thin and shallow: and is called a Grafting Gouge, with this they use to Inoculate one Graft or Bud into an other stock.

The third is a sharp pointed pen Knife, with a sharp end or point at the end of the haft.


Penknife
 The fourth is an other sort of Pen Knife, something bigger then an ordinary pen Knife, being made flat at the end of the Haft like a small wedge, thin and taper, with an edge at the end. The use of it is to open and raise the Bark of the grafting stock within, in which you are to put your Bud, or Graft.

Stock chisel
 59. He beareth in this square three or foure sorts of Instrument used by Gardiners and Planters: The first is called a Stock Chysill, or a Grafting Chysill; it is an Iron Toole about an Hands breadth in length, made contrary turning at each end about an inch and halfe wedg like, whose office it is to be put into the clift in the top of the stock to hold it open while the graft is fitly placed in the stock.

Pruning hook
 60. This square beareth six sorts Gardiners Instruments; the first is called the Pruning hook, it is almost an halfe round hooke with a square edge and point, and thick back; with a sockett to put either a long or short handle into it. It is for cutting and lopping of superfluous and dead branches from trees.


Dibble
 The second is the Gardiners Dibble or setting stick, It is a long peece of Iron with a nick at the lower end, with a cross peece of wood like to a spade head fastned to the top. With this both roots and slipps from flowers are set in the earth to grow.


Weeding hook
 The Third is a long staffe, with an Hooke turning up; set fast on the end with a socked, this is termed a weeding hooke; it work is to cut vp roots of strong weed which will not be easily pulled with the leaves.


Fork

The Fourth is a long staffe with a Fork.


Weeder
 The Fift is a long staffe, with a Broad Hooke of three teeth turning vp, made fast on the end of it be a strong sockett. This is termed a weeder or a Rooting [Pick?] It is to strike into the ground vpon a strong weed root which the teeth fastening in, on each side of it, by raiseing vp, or pulling down the other end of the staffe, will prise and forcibly draw the whole roote out of the ground.


Hand beetle
 The sixt is termed an Hand Beetle, or Grafting Mallet; is no other then a thing like the head of a spade with an handle put into the midle of the side of it. With the Grafter driveth in his Knife into the head of the stock where he intends to lay in his Grafts.
