Sword parts
Parts and appurtenances belonging to a sword and belt
The sword, when it hath all these following parts annexed to it.
The blade.
The edge or two edges.
The point.
The back.
The Gutter *** and engrauing.
The side of the blade.
The Shoulder.
The Tangs, as goes into the handle.
The Pummell.
The Handle.
The Neufes.
The --- [sic] of the handle of wire right and contrary or large chaine or small wire.
The Hilt, is either a crosse hilt, or a baskett, or Scotch Hilt.
The gards of the hilt.
The Scrowles of the hilt.
The Shell and eye and pummell for a Rapier hilt.
The Scabert or Sheath.
The Hooke or Hooke and Sockett, is to hang it by at the belt.
The chape, is the iron sockett fastned at the end of the scabert.
The false scabert, or scabert couer.
The Belt, is that as hangs the sword in to a mans thigh, or side which are of of --- [sic] sorts as a shoulder belt, to goe ouer the right shoulder and under the left arme. Or the midle belt to be clasped about the midle: or a Hook belt, to be hung at a girdle to hang a Fauchion or hanger at.
The Buckle.
The Runner.
The tab at the end of the belt.
The Embraudry, or studds which is for the adorneing of the belt.
