Bows and arrows (continued); firehooks Book III, Chapter 17, Section 1e Chapter 17, Item 72a Bow parts The seuerall parts of a Bow. The Hornes, where of the lower is termed the lower horne and the other the stringing horne, or vper horn it being always crooked. The Bow, so termed all its parts being together. The Warrants, are Knots in a Bow, which are left strong there, for the securing of it. The handle, the middle part where it is held. The cork - or noch on which the arrow rests, to keep the arrow from sticking in the bowe if it be drawn throw. The string, in which there is the noose by which the bow is strung. The lower noose which rests constantly on the lower horne of the bow and the whipping of the string, is that part where the arrow is set on. Back to Text & Pictures Chapter 17, Item 74a Arrow parts The seuerall parts of an Arrow. The shaft, is the wood part of the Arrow. The Horne. The Nock, is the slit, or nick where the string goes in. The Feathers, which sometyme are peeced if they be broken. The cock feather, is the highest feather which stands contrary to the nock. The Footing ---- [sic] is the peecing or seting one part into an other. The head, or pile head: is the iron, or steele sockett put on the end of the shaft.
