Musical instruments (additions to Ch. 16: 49) Book III, Chapter 16, Section 9 Chapter 16, Item 114a Animal calls The stag and Fox cryes, are made like to the foresaid: only their tongs beare a little more from their brasses, and there is noe cornet mouth on them. The Hogs grunting, the Cows Lowing, and Lyons roaring, may be Imitated after the same Maner, but the Brasses of them must be fuller, and the Lowermost wood wherein the brasses must be fastned, must be longer. The Plover and a puppie or yong whelpes voice is made with a small brasse, as in the peacocks, which if you blow at the close end it will yeeld a noise like to that of a plover: but if you put the open end into your mouth, and draw in your breath, it will giue a sound Just like the whining of a puppie.
